Sleep Training - Night 2

Autumn still amazes me how easy she is with this sleep training thing. Last night was great too! Another step closer to sleeping through the night. She went to bed at 7pm and woke up around 11:30pm. I had to rearrange her in the crib a bit because she was flopping her head back and forth (to get comfortable) and it kept hitting the side of the crib. She fussed (which was hardly fussing at all) for maybe 10 - 15 minutes and went right back to sleep. She then woke up at 4:30am and I was glad to nurse her :-) Went right back to sleep and just now woke up at 7:30am. I did not mind nursing her at 4:30, it's closer to the 12 hour mark than the first time she woke up. Plus, I needed her to nurse (lol).

Yesterday my mom was feeding Autumn her peaches and she started smacking her lips/clucking her tongue. Autumn apparently (I wasn't there) really studied my mom and worked hard at getting her mouth to do the same thing. Shortly after she was able to do it and continued to make that noise the rest of the night. It was so stinking cute. Especially at dinner, when I was feeding her, she would blow raspberries (sometimes with food, lol) and smack her lips too. She was so proud!

Tonight is going to be the first night, ever, that I won't put her to sleep. I have to be at our small group early to do a haircut, and it would be too early to put Autumn to bed. So my dad (who is thrilled!) is going to put her to sleep. I'm pretty confident he'll do a great job :-) He's so patient and calm when it comes to feeding her. I hope she does well for him.

Sleep Training - Night 1

Since Autumn has only slept through the night a couple of times since January, I've come to the conclusion that I need to "help" her again through the process. I wasn't really looking forward to this... I was able to watch a friend go through the same thing, with the help of my mom. But what mother can sit and watch their child crying? Ugh...

However... She did GREAT last night! Went to bed at 6:30pm. She woke up at 10:30pm and I was prepared to let her cry. Unfortunately (for me) an hour before it sounded like she pooped and she started to wiggle and cry like she was in pain. Earlier that day she pooped and it burned her lil bum :-( And I was not about to have her sit in that. So I picked her up to change her to only notice that it was just wet. Lil stinker :-P So I nursed her and she went back to sleep once again.

She then woke up at 1:30am, and I was not giving in this time. I patted her on her bum and told her it was "na-night" time. She wiggled like she was in pain again, but when I stopped, she stopped. So I just sat on the floor and listened to her for a while. She was letting out her "I'm so tired" cry, so it was a lot easier for me to sit through than her "I'm hungry" cry. She didn't last long and got really quiet. So I peaked on her through the corner of her breathable bumper and she was slightly tilting her head with her eyes open like "I know you're there!" :-) So I went upstairs for a while and talked with my mom. 15 minutes later I went back downstairs and she tried to cry a little bit more, but eventually fell back asleep! Ugh, success!!! I think I heard her peep once more a few hours later, but it didn't last long.

It is now almost 7am and she just woke up about 20 minutes ago! That is AMAZING!!! I honestly never thought that I would be able to get through this. It was something I was not looking forward to, but we both need our sleep ;-) Tonight I'm going to try to cut out the 10:30pm feeding. So we'll see how the rest of the night pans out after that.

Photo Update

Autumn enjoying peaches for the first time
(she actually got more in her mouth than on her bib).

Loving time with her Great Grandpa!

Such a priceless picture.

Checking out her new toy.

She's silly when it comes to trying new foods.

6 months!

I feel so overwhelmed when I don't post that often. Especially since Autumn's been keeping me so busy lately....

She had her 6 month check-up today! My big girl weighs in at 16 lbs 10 oz (75th percentile). She's also 27 1/2 inches long which is above the 95th percentile. We're gonna have one tall girl!!! She's off the charts and the pediatrician thinks that she's not going to come back down :-) Not that her parents are tall or anything... Everything else looks great. I mentioned that Autumn is making B noises and M noises as well and her face just lit up! Apparently that's 9 month stuff that she's been doing for a month already. That's great! The pediatrician loves that I surprise her with this stuff at every check-up. She's always been a little advanced since she was 2 months old. She's going to be one smart cookie!!! And then ugh, my least favorite part about the appointment... The shots... First shot, Autumn didn't cry!!!! I couldn't believe it and the nurse was shocked too. Second shot, definitely cried and third shot, really cried. She was a trooper though. Calmed down very quickly. Took a long nap when she got home and went to bed shortly after waking up from her nap. Speaking of sleep. I now have to "help" her sleep through the night. I'm not looking forward to it, but she's gotten in the bad habit of waking up for night-time feedings. Maybe I'll make my mom do it for me... LOL

Autumn is now a rolling around machine and it's a matter of time before she starts crawling. She knows how to manipulate her roll to get what she wants to. It's so amazing watching her brain at work when she's learning and accomplishing things on her own. She lifted her tummy off the floor for the first time yesterday. And she's starting to manipulate her legs like she wants to crawl. My easy baby life as I know it is now coming to an end. Not that I'm complaining... I fall more and more in love with her as she grows and learns.

Autumn officially got her first cold. She's definitely a trooper though. Never got fussy. Didn't sleep any different than her normal awake every 4 hours. Just woke up kind of stuffy in the morning. I tried a humidifier, but it died. So I just got her some baby Vicks and rubbed a small amount on her chest. It helped. She's doing much better.

I started Autumn on her first fruit on Monday... PEARS!!! I love pears :-) I got a mini food processor from a friend and it's amazing! I just took some pears that my mom canned and mushed it into somewhat smooth baby food and she loved it! Ate it really well. I've been feeding it to her twice a day right now. Next week I'm going to start her on peaches. Still nursing her and will as long as she wants to. She definitely doesn't want to give that up. I think she only eats enough fruit so that she can also put in a full nursing too :-) Autumn's pediatrician loves the fact that I'm feeding Autumn that way. She's not a huge fan of baby food (in those jars) because there's no texture to it and it's harder to transition from that to adult food. I wasn't planning on giving her jarred food anyways, so it makes me feel better that I get the support from the pediatrician.

As always, enjoy some pictures :-)

I think she had more pear on her face/hands/feet
than in her mouth!

Chillin in her car seat...

Nothing's better in playing with her piggies
in only her diaper!

I love this girl so much!

Where do I even begin?!?

Autumn has done all sorts of things this past week. I'm running out of room on my baby calender because she keeps amazing me everyday! She started out by blowing "raspberries" into her crib whenever I put her down. Cracks me up! We all will blow raspberries on her belly when we change her diaper. Most of the time she'll giggle. It's the only time we can get her to giggle and it's so quiet! However, a couple of days later, she started blowing raspberries anywhere and everywhere. Even sprayed me in the face a few times. :-)

We also decided to start her on some rice cereal. I don't know why, I wasn't a huge fan of starting it. I think it started with how well she took her anti-biotics and how well she was controlling her tongue. She really seems to enjoy it. I can't wait to start her on fruits and stuff. I think she aged like crazy right before my eyes!

Another random thing Autumn started doing is curling her tongue. So weird :-P

THEN.... Autumn passed a toy from one hand to the other. She's very observant with everything she does. Will study her hands while I change her diaper. She still hasn't gotten it that she can move her feet. It's hilarious! She'll wiggle her foot, and when it stops, attack it with her mouth. Hahaha. My baby cracks me up, all the time! Can you believe my baby is going to be 6 months old next week?

Not sure what to think about the rice cereal (with pear juice, yum!).

Such a goof!

So obsessed with her toes right now!!!

She kind of looks evil here. Tee hee.

Spring is in the air...

Today Autumn and I had the lovely privilege of meeting my dear friend Angie and her two beautiful kids (Declan and Molli) at Frederik Meijer Gardens today. Autumn had a BLAST in the butterfly green house! I carried her in my baby carrier and she just kicked her legs and looked wide-eyed at anything she could look at! I wish I could have taken pictures inside the green house, but my camera lense fogged up and I couldn't get clear pictures at all :-( I saw other people there with cameras like mine... I should have asked them why their lense wasn't foggy... Angie and I go way back to high school. We're so crazy together and it's CRAZY how we're both married and have kid(s) now! It's sad that she lives out of state, but I love getting together with her whenever I can :-D

Last night was amazing (for Autumn). She slept 9 1/2 hours last night! I am just so happy that she's feeling better and starting to sleep longer again at night. What cracked me up was she was completely turned 180 in the crib when she woke up in the middle of the night. So her head was facing the opposite direction from when I first laid her down. I don't know how... Silly goober! She has been doing so great with naps too. I don't have to comfort her anymore when I lay her down. She either falls asleep right away or will get there within 5 minutes. It helps with my daily routine so much when she does that! I have gotten so many things done and I don't feel like my day is a waste anymore.

We are officially baby proofing our house now. Autumn has now figured out that she can get from once side of the room to the other by rolling over. She's not super fast, but she figured it out :-) I love the look in her eyes when she figures out something like that herself! She's so proud and with some amazement too. I feel like she really aged herself by doing that. She really is 5 months now! She's also really close to sitting up by herself. I usually sit on the floor with her and let her sit up in between my legs. So she'll balance herself every now and then, but otherwise she's doing great. I gave her a bath today sitting up in the sink. It was definitely different, I really had a good grip on her, but a lot easier than the little tubby now. She likes to grab her feet a lot which makes her rock back and forth in the tubby and just startles me a lot.

I finally started my Couch to 5K program this week. And I feel GREAT! It's been wonderful outside. Walking and jogging a lot. I'm really looking forward to getting into shape again. I walked 4 miles with a friend yesterday (pushing strollers) and today my knee is really bothering me. Just sharp pain whenever I walk or bend it. I'm wondering if I should wear a knee brace or something when I walk now.

Well, I typed enough for a while. Enjoy pics of my beautiful little girl!

Such a happy face.

Spending some quality time with her daddy!

Loves her new high chair!

SURPRISE!

I'm still amazed by how beautiful my baby girl is :-)
